The CNRS (The Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique) is not only the largest research institution in France, but also Europe’s largest institution in basic research. The MoU between CNRS and Academia Sinica was initiated in October 2018. International collaboration between CNRS and AS has already been underway. In September 2022, Academia Sinica delegation led by President Liao visited several research institutes in France. During the trip, President Liao paid a special visit to CNRS and was warmed received by its Chairman & CEO Prof. Antoine Petit. Both parties exchanged opinions on such issues as science and technology policy making, higher education, and evaluation and supervision of research programs. After a pleasant and frank discussion, Prof. Petit proposed to extend the MoU that will expire by the end of October 2022. The signing ceremony of the MoU was immediately decided on the date of October 5 when the CNRS delegation scheduled to visit AS. In addition to the MoU, both parties agreed to, after mutual consultation, sign separate agreements focusing on specific cooperation matters including exchange of visit by scientists and mobility projects.
