Individuals, whether affiliated with Academia Sinica or not, who are subsidized by the institution to attend international academic conferences, participate in general assemblies of international academic organizations, or conduct short-term research visits abroad, must take the initiative to request corrections from the hosting organization if their nation’s name misrepresented or national dignity denigrated due to a failure to adhere to international norms.
In such cases, they must also immediately report to the Department of the International Affairs (dia@gate.sinica.edu.tw), detailing the situation and actions taken. A full account of the incident and subsequent developments should be included in the written report submitted upon return to assistant Academia Sinica’s follow-up.
If the travel is funded by the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC)—such as through the Program for Improving Scholarly Impact in the International Community or similar initiatives—the incident should also be handled in accordance with the “Operational Guidelines for the Correction and Handling of Misrepresentation of the Nation’s Name in International Journal Publications and Academic Conferences Attended by NSTC-Sponsored Scholars.”
