Academia Sinica and the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences Sign Memorandum of Understanding
In an effort to strengthen scientific research collaboration between Taiwan and Lithuania, Academia Sinica hosted the visit of Dr. Jūras Banys, President of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, along with his delegation on September 26, 2024. During the visit, both academies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking the start of a new era of bilateral research cooperation.
The Lithuanian Academy of Sciences is comprised of five divisions: Humanities and Social Sciences, Mathematical, Chemical and Physical Sciences, Biological, Medical and Geosciences, Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, and Technical Sciences. It gathers the country’s leading experts and scholars, providing essential policy advice to the Lithuanian Parliament and government departments. President Banys first visited Academia Sinica in February 2023. In July of the same year, President Liao led a delegation to Eastern Europe, including a reciprocal visit to the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on a variety of topics including research policies, talent development, and inter-academy collaboration.
The signing of this MoU established the first official framework for collaboration between the two academies. As President Liao was on business trip abroad, Vice President Mei-Yin Chou signed the MOU on behalf of Academia Sinica, Secretary General Chun-Hou Chen and several academic and administrative Directors witnessing this occasion. Both parties anticipate that this MoU will deepen scientific research exchanges and collaboration between Taiwan and Lithuania, and help to lay a solid foundation for future international research partnerships for Academia Sinica.
